All that panic for naught!!

30 03 2009

Well, what a waste of a day that was!! The Vancouver Fashion Week show I mean. Seriously, it was ridiculous. How those people can call themselves ‘organizers’ I’ll never know. Right down to the last minute, organization was not even remotely on their minds! I am SO spoiled having been trained by the best when it comes to show organization. My own show (the Fraser Valley Bead Show) is so organized, it almost scares me sometimes! LOL I have to thank my buddy Lise, it’s her whipping me into shape that has made the bead show as smooth as it is. Love her to pieces for that!! Boy was I ever tempted to sic her after the Vancouver Fashion Week dweebs!! OMG!!
I can’t even describe what the heck the show was about – I was one of 15 jewelry/accessory designers, shoved off in the back of a dark blackened building in a seed area of Vancovuer, listening to loud club music all day while far off near the front of the building local clothing designers had models do the runway catwalk thing. The fashion designers were given great exposure with photographers, media and all that jazz. The jewelry designers? We were shoved to the far back of the building, right by the bathrooms actually! We had very few people go by our booths and of the few that did go by, only one or two were actually interested in what they were seeing. What a gong show! :) But I will take it as a learning experience. I must say that Joye and I had a great time together (she’s HILARIOUS!) and if you ever meet her get her to show you her ‘model on the runway’ walk! She had me in stitches every time she came back from the runway area – she would do her model walk – except she kept smiling. All those skinny bitches NEVER smile on the catwalk (they’re probably too hungry! LOL!). We met some lovely jewelry designers. The girls from LaSalle College’s sad excuse for a jewelry design course were so sweet. They did mostly beaded stuff, but it was beautifully done. There was a great pair of sisters who have are in business together, one makes the jewelry, the other sells it – they call their company ‘Lemon Park’. They make woven/crocheted pieces with TONS of funky chunky crystals, beads, rocks, etc. We really enjoyed hanging out with them. There was one snobby lady from Whistler who had a lot of crocheted stuff that didn’t seem to want to chat with any of us. Oh well! :) I don’t remember who else was there, but after however many hours (seemed like 10 or 12 but was only about 4 LOL) it was a relief to leave the building and go home!

Anyway, enough from me – I thoroughly enjoyed hanging out with Joye, but certainly didn’t enjoy the show itself. I had a migraine this morning so I didn’t go today. I sure hope Joye made some money – she worked so hard on her stuff.

Okay, I should probably get myself ready for bed pretty quick. I am going to photograph all my jewelry (I have it ALL from the gallery plus a bunch of new pieces!), and will show them off as soon as the photos are done. Oh and I have a new website I’m working on – more on that when it’s ready to go!!

Hope you had a great weekend!
Cheers!

Countdown to panic!

23 03 2009

Well, not really panic, because those of you that know me, know that I just don’t panic. But I’m getting antsy about it right about now. The Vancouver Fashion Week show is coming up fast – the meet & greet is on Wednesday this week. Great. Not only do I have a class that night, it’s also downtown Vancouver – which means crappy parking, a loooooooong way from the venue. Plus it’s a bucket load of people I don’t know. I know, I know, but it could be the media, and it could be good for my ‘career’ and on and on. But I don’t have anything to wear. I don’t even own a decent pair of shoes (sorry, pink camo Crocs just won’t cut it for this event!). I know, I know, I’ve known about this coming up for some time. But between money and not going shopping, I highly doubt I’ll find anything worth wearing to the meet & greet. The rest of the show for Joye and I is on Saturday and Sunday. Which won’t phase me a bit. Because I’ll have my table with my jewelry and I’m getting a ride downtown with Joye (she can’t give me a ride on Wednesday – long story). I even have something to wear on Saturday and Sunday. I kind of sound like I’m making excuses about Wednesday, and I guess I am. I feel like I’m on one of those teeter totters that kids love so much – up/down/up/down but it’s more go/don’t go/go/don’t go…… I guess I will make the decision soon. If I had a ride on Wednesday I’d probably go. ARGH! I’m not usually this wishy washy! LOL

Anyway, suffice it to say I have a whole bunch of pieces in the works for the show – we shall see just how many make it to the table top! LOL Have a great Sunday evening – I’ll keep you posted about what I decide to do! :)

New Work!

16 03 2009

Hello all!! I’ve been a little bit busy (but I’ll get busier soon, I promise!), and have a couple of custom order sets to show off for it. First is an aqua blue cubic zirconia set – it’s a birthday gift for someone, hope she likes them

Aqua blue cz necklace

aqua blue cz earrings

The stones are all bezel set (6mm square to give you an idea of size), and hanging on silver snake chain – gives them a bit of movement.

This next set – not really a set, different textures, but the same stones – pink cubic zirconias.

pink cz earrings

pink cz ring

That’s it for now – hope you like. I’m also working on a bunch of stuff for the fashion week show coming up in a few short weeks. Mostly ‘production’ stuff (the kind of stuff that I can do lots of repeats of!), but I’ll show pics when they’re ready!!

Now, off to dinner with dh, hope you all are having a wonderful Sunday evening! Cheers!

It never ends!!

10 03 2009

Well, it has now – I’m talking about SNOW!!! Again. I did mention that the weather people had rumored about it, but jeez!!!!! Fortunately it’s stopped snowing, but there was quite the white-out conditions this morning. Sigh. My poor little budding trees!!! I’m glad dh filled the bird feeders last night, they sure have been busy little stations today. I’m going to work on some stuff for the fashion week show today, but first a little time with my third son who stopped by for a visit. Hope you all have a great day – and that this stupid snow just goes away and stays away until next year!!! :)

March has arrived!

9 03 2009

There are tiny little tell tale signs that spring is just around the corner now – yes, even though there are the threats of that white crap (snow) in the weather reports. Little things like the robins are back, the plum trees are starting to bud, there are crocuses popping up around the neighborhood, they all point to one thing. Spring is near!! Whew!!! Hopefully it’s a nice warm sunny one – but really, as long as it doesn’t snow, I’m a happy camper. I must admit that it was glorious sitting in the warm sunshine waiting for dh to get off work the other day. When I park the car, it’s facing the sun, and it was just soooo toasty!!! I could have easily nodded off!! Good thing I was parked!!

Yes, I’ve made a bit of jewelry – not nearly enough, but I’m trying. I did finish Naaz’s ring (Naaz – don’t look if you want a surprise!!). It’s growing on me – the darn thing took WAY too long to make. More my procrastination than difficulty truth be told!! Anyway, here it is, sterling silver, colored sapphires and a garnet (three views of the same ring)….

I think it turned out okay, and I do hope Naaz loves it!! It’s definitely her style! :)

Well, best get back to work – I’m doing a million things all at the same time – talk about multi-tasking!!! I’m going to need a holiday soon! :) Cheers!~
